DGOJ hosts its inaugural meeting on AML in the gaming sector

The Spanish regulator convened industry representatives and regulatory authorities for the meeting.

The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ) has reported that its inaugural meeting on addressing AML challenges in Spain’s gambling sector took place on Tuesday, February 6.

This gathering brought together key industry representatives and regulatory entities, including the Executive Service of the Commission for the Prevention of Money Laundering and Monetary Offences (Sepblac), the Financial Intelligence Unit, and the Supervisory Authority for Anti-Money Laundering and the Public Treasury.

The event was led by Mikel Arana, Director General of Gaming Regulation, alongside Irene Sánchez Pérez, advisory member of the Public Treasury. Their discussions focused on recent AML regulatory changes across Europe.

The meeting covered a range of key topics, including insights from inspections of gambling operators and the role of financial intelligence in detecting and preventing money laundering. These discussions were followed by a roundtable session and a Q&A.

The primary goal of the event was to foster dialogue on money laundering in Spain’s gambling sector, providing a platform for open discussion and industry advancement.

In its press release, the DGOJ reaffirmed its commitment to regulating, authorizing, supervising, and enforcing gambling laws in Spain. The regulator emphasized its dedication to maintaining sector integrity and transparency by implementing measures that enhance security and legality in online gambling, with a focus on effective cooperation.

Recently, the DGOJ revealed that Soft2Bet secured a general license for the Spanish market, granting the company permission to offer its casino products across the country.

Meanwhile, in broader European AML developments, the Swedish Trade Association for Online Gambling (BOS) introduced new measures aimed at strengthening anti-money laundering efforts within the Scandinavian region.
