The UFC president and primary promoter, Dana White, intrigued the public with the possible McGregor’s return in 2021. According to the president, the organization prepares an exciting proposition for the Irish fighter. The latest sports news claims that McGregor is still the most in-demand media person in MMA, which makes sense in his possible return to the octagon.
The retirement of Conor McGregor seems to be a temporary measure, and the public can see him again in the octagon. The famous Irish mixed martial artist announced his retirement in late 2019 but then stunned Donald Cerrone in the first round at the beginning of 2020. The official decision to hang up the gloves was confirmed on June 6 earlier this year.
Why is Conor McGregor's return still possible and desirable?
There are a few reasons for the return of "Notorious" to the professional sport. The first one is his current physical condition. At the beginning of 2020, he has destroyed Cerrone in the first round, showing why he is one of UFC history's best fighters. Conor is only 32, which is still an excellent time to be on the peak, even in the exhausting fighting sports.
Secondly, McGregor didn't quit the anti-doping program held by UFC. When the MMA representative finishes his or her career, one can skip this step and forget about testing. Conor, however, didn't close the doors of the anti-doping agency, which could confirm that he was going to return to professional sports.
Thirdly, Conor McGregor is still the most popular person in MMA. Even after retirement, he led the 2020 rankings of most-earning MMA fighters held by Forbes. Not surprisingly, his media popularity allows him to sign notable advertising contracts, which correlates with his pay-per-view numbers in UFC. Four of the five most high-rated MMA battles were with McGregor's participation. All these make sense to organize another appearance of "Notorious" in the octagon in 2021.
