Diego Maradona, the Argentinian legend, has recently become a new coach of the football club Gimnasia La Plata.
The welcome ceremony for the football superstar took place at the Del Bosque stadium with over 30 thousand fans.
Gimnasia La Plata has been the champion in the second division for three times. However, it was a long time ago – in 1944, 1947 and 1952. The team has also managed to win the 1994 Centenary Cup. Currently the club is at the very bottom of Argentina’s Primera Division.
Maradona left the post of the national team’s coach 9 years ago. There was a press conference after the welcome ceremony and the Argentinian “Golden Boy” behaved in a very emotional manner. He promised to do his best but emphasized that he is not a magician.
Due to health problems, Maradona was forced to leave the Mexican football club Dorados de Sinaloa about three months ago. The Argentinian’s main task in the new club will be to prevent the team from relegation.
As mentioned earlier, another Argentinian football star, Lionel Messi, was reportedly thinking of changing the club next summer.
