Canelo is ready to get in the ring against Kovalev on November 2. It will be the fourth world title for the Mexican if he beats “Krusher”.
However, Canelo does not plan to stop and wants to try himself in the cruiserweight division. The boxer claims it may sound crazy but no one knows how things will turn out in the future.
This time seems to be perfect for the Mexican to move up to the cruiserweight division. Currently one of the cruiserweight titles, namely the WBC one, is vacant, and the main contender for the belt is Ilunga Makabu. Facing this fighter would be a good option for Canelo. In spite of the fact that Makabu won his last seven fights, his opponents were weak fighters. It is also noteworthy that the Congolese boxer was knocked out by Tony Bellew three years ago. Therefore, if Álvarez chooses Makabu as his future opponent, he will probably be criticized for selecting weak rivals.
Of course, there are other options for Canelo in the cruiserweight division. For example, he may get in the ring against WBO champion Briedis or IBF champion Dorticos. Defeating these boxers would not be quite easy for the Mexican so he should consider all the options carefully.
As mentioned earlier, former heavyweight world champion Fury is going to end his professional career next year.
