The New Zealand fighter Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya has earned a middleweight crown for the third time, while his Italian opponent failed to keep up his five-bout winning streak.
Vettori didn’t stand a chance
Two middleweight fighters have previously engaged in a fight, which ended in a split-decision win for Adesanya. Both have been expecting a rematch ever since. This time the Nigerian-born fighter made sure his victory was unanimous, as all three judges scored 50-45 in his favour.
“The Last Stylebender” has shown superb leg kicks right from the outset of the five-round bout, controlling the ring for most of the time. The Italian fighter tried to reclaim the dominance during the third round, managing to pull down his opponent and threatening him with a rear-naked choke. Adesanya, however, promptly fought back, twice reversing the rival.
The 31-year-old champion has dedicated his victory to a recently deceased comrade, Fau Vake, who passed away after an alleged assault in the city of Auckland.
“The Last Stylebender” has also requested a rematch with his “arch-nemesis”, Robert Whittaker, whom he has defeated two years prior.
