As stated in the latest casino news, Finnish state-owned gambling operator, Veikkaus, has announced that its reduced loss limit for games of chance will become permanent, after the Ministry of Interior has issued a corresponding decree last Friday.
Veikkaus put reduced daily and monthly loss limits in place right from the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, introducing temporary gambling restrictions in May 2020. The measures were taken as a precaution, as an increased amount of time spent at home, could lead to problem gambling among Finns.
The Finnish government has already prolonged gambling loss restrictions several times, finally adopting them on a permanent basis from July 1, 2021.
As of May 2020, casino players in Finland can lose a maximum of EUR 500 per day, while the previous limit was set at EUR 1000. At the same time, Veikkaus sets a EUR 2000 monthly loss limit for all games of chance.
Maria Ohisalo, the Minister of Interior, has commented on the matter, stating that the reduced loss limits will benefit gambling harm prevention as well as increase the living standard and address the nation’s debt problem.
