The main topic of all Ukrainian gambling news articles is the adoption of the law that makes the gambling industry in the country legal.
Volodymyr Zelensky has signed the Gambling Act on August 11, and this date is historic for all gambling operators that want to operate in the territory of Ukraine because know they have a legal right to apply for a license. Some of them have already stated their willingness to get it.
What is allowed under the bill?
The bill allows companies that provide various types of gambling services (poker rooms, sports betting, slot machines, land-based casinos located in hotels) operate in Ukraine. The license cost depends on a gambling product. For example, operators will need to pay 30.7 million Ukrainian hryvnias for online casinos, the license for betting companies will cost 70.8 million Ukrainian hryvnias, for poker service providers – 23.7 million Ukrainian hryvnias.
The next question to agree is the amount of tax for operators. The Verkhovna Rada should consider the latest suggestion made by Oleg Marusyak. He has proposed five percent for betting, ten percent for online gambling, 12.5% for slots.
It isn’t a secret that Zelensky has been supporting the idea of legal gambling in Ukraine for a long time. According to the current President of Ukraine, the legalization of the industry will help to fight against the black market and stop the operation of illegal businesses.
