Britishers have shown growing participation in the national self-exclusion service, Gamstop, in February. A 21% increase and the new daily record became an interesting topic for the latest casino news rubric.

UK Self-Exclusion Scheme Was in High Demand in February 2021

The UK was at the forefront of launching a self-exclusion scheme for gambling addicts, making this step in 2018. Since that time, officials were promoting the system, which led to the increasing popularity of the service among Britishers.

However, the year to date became the toughest period for problem punters, whose vulnerability grew with pandemic and related restrictions. Thus, February 22 set a new daily record of 326 new signings, while the month’s overall trend looked worryingly. At the end of the second month of 2021, the number of people registered in the system is almost 200 000.

Gender diversification and other aspects

While society tends to review problematic gambling as a mainly male problem, the recent proportion isn’t so one-sided. Thus, the number of females that joined the scheme reached 50 000, which is 29% of the total number.

Another essential thing to mention is the dominance of the younger generation who participates in the program. Thus, the number of people from 18 to 34 amounts to 59% of the overall list.

Experts consider February’s spike as the logical outcome of the increased gambling in November-December 2020. Also, they admit that more and more people know and understand the effect of the self-exclusion scheme. At the same time, sources inform about the increase of advertising of the black gambling market, which allows gambling even being in the lists of Gamstop.
