According to GamCare charity, the National Gambling Helpline funded by GambleAware will be available round-the-clock since October 1 this year.
Competent consultants will provide support through a live chat and Freephone channel. They will advise callers on gambling issues and connect them with curative care services.
The round-the-clock service is a pilot scheme. However, if such service is successful, it will probably be extended.
GamCare CEO Anna Hemmings claims taking into account the round-the-clock nature of gambling, people feel worst overnight when support services do not usually work. The National Gambling Helpline gives an opportunity to reach competent consultants at any time. Thus, callers will get immediate support, advice and information about the network of treatment services.
According to GambleAware CEO Marc Etches, they are responsible for launching this service that is a key element of the campaign dedicated to gambling treatment. GambleAware’s aim is to protect people and to provide support service that is easy to get access to. He adds they are glad the helpline will be available round-the-clock and they will later evaluate its efficiency.
As mentioned earlier, Helen Whately has been appointed as new UK minister for gambling. She is a member of Parliament for Faversham and Mid Kent.
