Loosening the grip on sports wagering is what has been taking place in the United States over the past couple of years. Iowa is the latest state where sportsbook operation will finally be allowed.
According to the local authorities’ decision, betting on amateur and professional sports as well as eSports will become legal in the territory of this state starting from August 15, 2019.
Iowa is going to become the eleventh state in the USA, as well as the first one in the Upper Midwest to allow sports wagering for adults. However, the sports betting license will be quite expensive, which is peculiar for any type of gambling. The fee includes the license cost ($45,000 as a one-time payment + $10,000 each year for its renewal), as well as taxes to the local budget.
Due to these conditions, not every operator will be able to start betting business in Iowa right after the repeal of the ban. Furthermore, many companies are not ready to open betting shops there because of the lack of suitable premises. However, they still have time to handle all the problems regarding their operation since the new college football season and other sports tournaments are yet to be started.
