Offline gambling traditions in the UK began in 1994 when the first National License was given to Camelot. Since that time, the British lottery has become the place of regulated entertainment with numerous winners and a lot of charity functions. According to the latest lottery news, plenty of international gambling providers will compete for the UK’s internal gambling market.
British Gambling Commission announced the beginning of the tender process, which would lead to giving the fourth National Lottery certification. This license will allow providing lottery services across the country from 2023 till 2033.
What will change compared to the 3rd revision?
The primary aspect relates to the term during which the regarded license will be actual. Ten years are going to be an appropriate period for its owner to build long-lasting marketing and advertising campaigns.
Other innovations touch upon the protection of players’ standards, which should be increased compared to the previous license and include the existing objective technical improvements. The issue of good clauses is another element that will be obligatory for the next license holder, while the provider will receive more flexibility in building relations with players. Also, the British Gambling Commission expects more accountability from the side of the new operator and continuing of life-changing traditions.
The situation with applicants
According to rumours, postponing the licensing process for three months (although related to the coronavirus obstacles) gives more chances to Camelot to continue their cooperation with the GC. However, they will face competition with both local and international operators.
Thus, the Healthy Lottery is going to compete and has announced its desire to gain a national license and stop the dominance of its rival Camelot. Another British-based concerned party is Virgin Group led by Richard Branson. Czech gambling provider Sazka Group and FDJ lottery from France are among international applicants.
