The Biggest Esports Prize Pool Now Belongs to Dota 2 International 2020

Since 2013, Dota 2 is shaking the minds of those who consider cybersport as something like kids games. The International (a type of global competition in Dota 2) offered the total prize pool of almost $3 million to the participants in 2013, which was the first $1+ million event in gaming. The next year a global competition in Dota 2 presented more than $10 million to divide among the partakers.

Why didn’t COVID-19 influence the situation with prizes?

Even though the International 2020 in Dota 2 still is not announced concerning dates and place, viewers and fans are already expecting the event. Organisers are waiting for safer conditions towards participants and live attendance to make the event really scalable. It became the reason to postpone the official information about the tournament.

However, the previous year's record of $34 330 068 has been already beaten, while the process of collecting money for the prize pool continues. Probably, the new event will not even be the International 2020 as the COVID-19 situation can delay the event for the next year. Nevertheless, cybersport competitions have confirmed once again that their growing popularity is a stable trend for years.
