Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority, wants to clarify deposit restrictions ahead of the prolongation of the COVID-19 measures.
The authority says that the limits are reasonable, however, it is important to provide detailed explanations before they will last till November.
Clear regulation helps to avoid operators bypassing rules
In its call, the Gambling Authority emphasizes that it is necessary to put an end to misunderstandings about the deposit cap of SEK5 000. The recent case with Kindred, which has been discussed in the news about the casino vertical, is proof of this.
The current restrictions came into force back in summer 2020 and were planned to remain in place only until the end of the previous year. The measures were prolonged until June 2021. Now Spelinspektionen calls for the reconsideration of rules as they aren’t clear enough to create an appropriate regulatory framework. This impacts the gambling vertical negatively, creating loopholes for operators. That is why the regulatory body has appealed to the court to resolve the dispute.
