Phil Ivey Being Prevented from Getting His WSOP Winning

A court saga between Ivey and Borgata is still ongoing. Phil owes $10 million to the East Coast casino, that is why he cannot keep any winning. According to the judgment, all the money he wins will be collected by Borgata until the debt is paid off.

The famous poker player held the chip lead in the PPC but lost the advantage and finished the tournament on the 8th position with $124,410 prize. However, Borgata lawyers were ready to submit a request to the WSOP for paying out his winning to the casino account in accordance with the aforementioned judgment. This resulted in Ivey’s inability to pocket the money.

Thus, Borgata received the money on July 16, so the WSOP has complied with its obligations regarding the winning payout. After Ivey had found this out, he totally lost his luck busted out at the Main Event in less than an hour. Apparently, he knew what would happen to his winning in case of success.

Phil has continued to actively participate in different poker tournaments outside the US (such as the Triton Series in London), but his career in the home country seems to be ended. With regard to Borgata lawyers, they seek to find Ivey’s other assets to withhold.
