The leading gambling company in Greece, OPAP SA, announced its intention to appeal the Council’s decision regarding the operator’s online sportsbook license revocation.
Goalbet has recently challenged the EEEP licensing approval of Pame Stoixima (online sports betting subsidiary of OPAP). The administrative court of Greece supported the appeal.
According to OPAP representatives, the company is considering the ways of solving the issue of revoking their license. They added that the decision made by the Council of State goes against the previous actions of the local authorities. For instance, all candidate investors who took part in the OPAP’s privatization process received the information that the company would be legally able to provide online betting offers till 2020.
The Council of State also reacted to the gaming company’s statement. According to them, OPAP is obliged to comply with the licensing terms and conditions of Greece if it plans to start operating on the local market again.
As mentioned earlier, last month German authorities introduced new rules for sports betting companies that will enter into force from 2020.
