A Dutch Caribbean island Curacao has received important news about the gambling industry changes, which will come from the Netherlands in the nearest future.
As the Netherlands government provides financial support to the island for dealing with the damage caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, it demands fulfillment of certain obligations by Curacao. The latest industry, which has become affected by these obligations, is gambling. Now local operators should be ready to follow new regulations and comply with a set of laws.
What does the Netherlands demand from Curacao?
According to the representatives of the Dutch government, the Country Package, under which the Netherlands provides support to the island’s economy, will now also include requirements for the operation of the gambling business. Curacao operators will need to follow new licensing rules that will restrict their operation in some regions around the globe considerably.
These regulations will prohibit license holders to provide gambling services in the territories of the countries where they don’t have the right to operate. Besides, the Netherlands is among these states. In addition to the above-mentioned requirements, the island will also have to establish a regulatory body, which will control whether current license owners are capable of keeping within the law. All these regulations will obviously lead to the customers decrease. The situation will be aggravated by taxes and fees that operators will be obliged to pay regularly.
