Players from the United States have got good poker news – the online game is now officially legal in the country.
As it was informed, the US Department of Justice couldn’t protest the New Hampshire Lottery’s statement that the Wire Act regulates only the bookmaking sector.
Legalization of virtual poker opens many opportunities for ops
To understand the importance of the change in the law, it is necessary to look back at the initial scenario. The Wire Act put a spoke in the US operators’ wheel for a long time as it banned the usage of wire traffic for any forms of gambling. The regulation influenced virtual interstate poker as well. It has restrained the poker industry immensely as many states don’t have big markets, which makes it impossible for operators to develop their business. Now poker providers can finally enjoy more opportunities.
The DOJ changed its mind concerning online gambling several times. First, the executive department opposed the idea of separating poker from the betting vertical in terms of legislation. However, later the government body has reshaped its opinion and decreed that the Wire Act is applicable only to the bookmaking industry. It wasn’t the last change because the DOJ came to the conclusion that the law had to be applied to all forms of gambling after some time. However, it met with opposition from the New Hampshire Lottery and didn’t manage to appeal against it.
