According to the news about the gambling industry in Germany, several sports betting operators have got the licenses finally.
Hesse became the first state to issue licenses and broke the path for other regions to follow its example and allow operators to enter the betting market legally.
Fifteen companies became license holders
Peter Beuth, the Minister of the Interior, has permitted fifteen operators to provide sports betting services. As it has been informed, the list of licensees includes such industry giants as GVC Holdings, Bet365, BetVictor, and a project of Gauselmann Group. GVC Holdings has even acquired four separate licenses for its main betting subsidiaries – bwin, Ladbrokes, Gamebookers, and Sportingbet. The current fifteen certifications comprise seventy-five percent of the whole bookmaking market in Germany.
Peter Beuth has said that this breakthrough means big changes in the betting industry. However, he has also added that the main aim of these regulations isn’t to increase the number of people who wager on sports but to make this gambling sector more controlled. With the start of the transition period on October 15, alongside virtual poker and slot machines, betting products will be allowed in the country as well. Operators will have to follow a set of requirements to ensure that they comply with the law. For example, they will implement a special verification system that protects minors from gambling. In addition to this, the regulatory bodies will monitor bookmakers’ operation thoroughly.
