The French regulator announced in recent betting news that ten licensees had got the permission to continue their operation in the country.
L’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ), the iGaming regulator, has not only given the green light for already existing operators to continue providing their services but also granted a license to a newcomer. In general, the regulator has issued only nineteen licenses during the whole period, and fourteen are still enabled at the current time. They are divided between sportsbooks (sports and horseracing) and iGaming companies. However, some operators hold more than one license.
Is it difficult to retain a license in France?
Online casinos became regulated in France ten years ago. Now, the gambling industry in the country is slowly developing, with a small boost that has happened during the lockdown. License holders have to comply with quite strict regulations set for the industry. That is why not all of them can renew the license without obstacles.
The regulator is very specific about such aspects of the iGaming market as regulated advertising, protection of users, integrity, etc. Only operators with high-quality services can “survive” in the market and get the right to continue offering their gambling products. At the same time, the French market is attracting more and more businesses that also apply for licensing.
